The 15th of the month means that is is GBBD hosted by Carol of May Dreams Garden, if you haven’t allready – do visit her blog to see the delights that Carol has blooming for June. Also via the comments you can check out other garden bloggers from around the world.
The regular readers of my blog will know that I do not have peony flowers to post to-day. For those of you that are interested to know the story of why I don’t have peonys click here
If there is one word for my garden this month it is poppies. I scattered the seeds last year in a newly created, but empty flowerbed – and this year they have self seeded and flowered again, in a wide variety of colours and forms.

The other plants that are very prolific throughout the garden are hardy geraniums. These are great for filling in all the spaces that I have not got shrubs or perennials for … yet.
Among the geraniums – nasturtiums have self seeded.
There is also a lot of yellow in the garden, from Welsh poppies, St Johns Wort (Hypericum), and Senecio, but I haven’t photographed them – because yellow is not one of my favorite colours – and I was short of time!
These Nemophila Penny Black are an annual that I grew from seed this year and I am very pleased with them as an edging at the front of a flower bed.
The rose below was in the garden when we moved in – it is underneath the leaf canopy of a willow tree – I really don’t know how it survives – and the scent is divine
Also today – I was delighted to pick my first bunch of sweet peas from the garden – so my moment of madness has started to pay dividends, what joy.

Everything is looking ‘blooming’ lovely but some things are growing too fast to keep on top of them. Going out to do some gardening this morning. It is green bin day tomorrow so will give them something to collect!!
Cheers
Hope you got your gardening done – thank goodness for green bin day – sometimes I feel that I want to go around all my neighbors bins and fill them up as well –
Karen
I really like the Nemophila – I will have tolook out for those next year. Glad you’ve got your first bunch of sweet peas as well
Helen
Hi Helen – Nemophila is worth looking out for and is easy to grow. It would look really cute in summer pots (but I never seem to have time to do summer pots).
Karen
I’m knee deep in hardy geraniums at the moment and enjoying it very much. Still waiting for a classy seedling to arrive amongst them
Hardy geraniums are lovely – I happened to pass a nursery that specializes in them – well when I say pass – the half hour de-tour really doesn’t count – so have now got three more. They are white
Karen
I also have my first cuttings of sweet peas. I cheated and bought the plants from Karen when they were ready to be planted out. They are cheering up my lounge and currently have a lovely delicate scent that will apparently get stronger as the year goes on. (The new flowers that is not the ones in my lounge). I would love to get some of those hardy geraniums in my garden, but am still in a 2 & 8 with it. Karens are spectacular.
Its not cheating to get sweet pea plants – you still have to grow them on
Karen
Beautiful flower pics – I was especially glad to see the sweet peas which I can’t grow here in the Languedoc as -usually – it is too hot and dry. The one flower I regret leaving behind when I left Wales! All the best.
Teleri, Thanks for visiting. Wales to Languedoc! Thats different. Glad you like the flower pictures.

Roses can be very tough, can’t they – some are very fussy and some survive on almost nothing.
Happy GBBD!
/Katarina
To be honest Katarina – I don’t think I realized just how tough roses can be – I think in the past I have tended to molly coddle them a bit.
Karen
I love that lavender Poppy. It is so beautiful. The color of the blue Geranium almost looks fake it is so intense. And Sweet Peas – I am so envious. They must smell wonderful.
Hi Mr. McGregor’s Daughter – the sweet peas do smell fabulous – I chose all the varieties I grew from seed for their scent. Unfortunately I cannot have them in the house – but they look pretty on our patio.
Karen
Hi there Karen
Great posting, love your pics especially the first poppy. I too love the hardy geraniums. But sweet peas I am always envious of. I have difficulty growing them – maybe this year!
Have a great week
Hi Shirl – thanks for dropping by. I do enjoy the flowers at this time of year – but picking sweet peas is perhaps one of my greatest joys.
Karen
Love the poppy and the sweet peas! Thanks for joining in for bloom day!
Thanks for dropping by Carol, I enjoy Bloom Day very much.
