My cunning plan seems to be working.
We will be eating our first radish from the Kitchen Garden tonight – so far they have not been attacked by flee beetle or slugs.
And the carrots have germinated nicely underneath the radish leaves. Now we just have to keep the carrots covered up with fine mesh to protect them from carrot fly ….
In fact these radish (Cherry Belle) look so good – that it tempted me to buy seeds for two more varieties to-day. Neither of which I have tried before French Breakfast 3 and Long White Icicle.
Everything in the kitchen garden seems to be a few weeks behind this year. Last night I nearly went out to it in the middle of the night – we had such torrential rain that I was convinced my shallots would have floated away – but they were still there this morning – albeit looking a bit rain battered. However – I don’t want to talk about what the rain did to my tulips (sigh).

I think you need to send the photo to the seed company. Your photo is better than theirs! Poor tulips.
Hi Karen, your radishes look perfect. The variety we tried this year was called sparkler. I like your much better. Yum, radish sandwich.

Beautiful shot Karen!
Glad to hear your cunning plan is working:)!
Hi Karen, I am really impressed with the radishes! I have only just sown mine! French Breakfast is my all time favourite one. It is really yummy and dosnt get too hot. I shall try different ones, as radishes were my big discovery last year. Before, I thought of them as an indicator plant for other things. But French Breakfast with a little salt and a glass of wine before dinner….. lots of love, Linda
I’m sorry I didnt notice the rain in the night . My tulips didn’t either. The radish picture is good though, dobby is right.
This is the comment that dobby made last month, she is right your pictures should be shown to the seed sellers. Oh and Ill be round when she supplies the lamb in cider and honey.
Party!!

These photo’s are obviously airbrushed & digitaly enhanced. I’ve never seen a raddish that looks so perfect. At least the carrots look like they could have been grown in someones veg patch! If they grow big enough, I’ll supply the lamb in cider and honey! Good luck
I’ve just planted my radishes, never done them before and I’m not sure what type but they have red stems, still got my veg under cover, I’ll leave it on untill they are a bit bigger. My shallots are noe srarting to sprout so I must have out them in at the right depth.
I’m having to go on slug slaying trips each night now as they seem to come from everyone elses garden into mine, the slayers are working overtime chopping them up. Makes it easier the next night as the live ones gather around to eat the ded ones and before you know it I have piles of dead slugs…
Cheers Mark
Mmmm-radishes. Looking forward to seeing my germinate. I forget to put them in until last Saturday!
Yum, I love radishes – I doubt mine would have survived long enough to make a photo!
Sorry to hear about the tulips, but think you are most lucky to be eating such delicious-looking radishes! I’d be growing more too, if my first harvest looked so wonderful. I am sure that I read a blog recently where the author was trying French Breakfast radishes (but I don’t remember if # 3 was associated with them or not). Foggy wee brain tonight. Time to sleep!!
those radishes look very tasty – enjoy
